I’ve been asked a number of times why I chose the name “Lightbridge” for my art, and I wanted to share a little about what inspired me here today!
Before work started on the website last year I took some time to think about the name. I had been doing a lot of research on art brand names and many of those I liked were already taken. In fact, most anything I was interested in was gone! I had a few ideas, I even bought a domain name, but they just weren’t fully sitting with me – they didn’t feel meaningful and I couldn’t see myself saying any of the names out loud and feeling convinced about them.
Amongst other words and concepts, I followed separate paths for the words “light” and “bridge” during my research. I couldn’t find a right way to use “light” and I eventually decided on “bridge”, initially trying different colours with it, for example red bridge and green bridge. I almost went with Red Bridge Art. When it came to me to add “light” before “bridge” to create “light bridge” or even “lightbridge” one sunny Saturday morning while out on a dog walk, I was very excited and everything seemed to make sense!
From a spiritual perspective, “light” is synonymous with “truth”. Art in its purest form is, by nature, true in that it doesn’t try to hide or distort anything. I understand now why many artists say they feel vulnerable in the expression of themselves and at some level how this unfiltered, creative work exposes how you really think and feel. I see this every time my Paintings evoke an emotion in someone… mine or theirs? That begs a separate discussion. 🙂
The first painting I chose to do at art class when I returned to painting after that long two decades was Monet’s Japanese bridge. I’m a big Impressionists fan and my husband and I plan to go to Monet’s beautiful garden in Giverny, France very soon. I also love Japanese gardens and the bright bridge over sparkly water always feels so symbolic. I started doing reiki in 2011 – it’s a big part of my work and life – and the notion of the bridge between heaven and earth or the soul and the human is the key.
The quotes by two men of whom I’ve never heard on the Home page explain “light” and “bridge” so well!
I was clear too that I wanted cobalt teal in there, because of the Monet bridge but also as it’s probably my favourite colour to paint with. I love the little bridge in the “H” of the logo and the bridge somehow feels sturdy yet light-filled. As you can see, Elaine and Alex of Little Blue Studio really indulged me with this and I thank them for bringing Lightbridge Art to life!
